Steady in the Season of Change

March is a month of in-between. Winter hasn’t fully let go, spring hasn’t fully arrived, and everything feels like it’s shifting — slowly, quietly, almost imperceptibly. Parenting can feel the same way. We’re caught between what we hope for and what we’re actually living, between the habits we want to build and the ones we’re still trying to break, between the children we’re raising and the adults they’re becoming.
March invites us into a different kind of faithfulness — not the fresh-start energy of January or the grit-your-teeth perseverance of February, but a steady, gentle trust in the God who works in seasons.
The Slow Work of God
Scripture reminds us that growth often happens long before we see it. Jesus said, “First the blade, then the head, then the full grain in the head” (Mark 4:28). In other words: growth is a process. A slow one. A holy one.
March is the “trust the process” month.
It’s the month of:
Kids who suddenly outgrow their shoes overnight
Routines that shift with the longer daylight
Emotional ups and downs that feel like spring weather — warm one minute, stormy the next
School fatigue settling in
Parents trying to keep everyone moving forward without losing their peace
And yet — God is in all of it. He is shaping our children in ways we can’t always see. He is shaping us too.
When Change Feels Subtle
Last month we talked about seeds taking root. March is when those roots deepen. Not always visibly. Not always dramatically. But faithfully.
Maybe your child asks a deeper question about God. Maybe they show compassion in a moment that surprises you. Maybe they remember a verse you thought they’d forgotten. Maybe they simply sit a little closer during prayer time. These small shifts are reminders that God is gently, steadily forming their hearts — and ours.
Parenting With a Springtime Heart
Spring teaches us something important: growth doesn’t happen through force. It happens through warmth, nourishment, and time.
As parents, we reflect God’s heart when we:
Offer patience during emotional storms
Speak gently when we’re tempted to rush
Create small moments of connection in busy days
Celebrate effort, not just results
Model repentance and forgiveness
Our children learn the character of God not only through Bible stories, but through the way we respond to them in the everyday moments — the messy ones, the tender ones, the ordinary ones.
Inviting God Into the Season of Change
March is a month of transition, and transitions can feel unsettling. But they are also full of possibility. This month, invite God into:
The shifting routines
The growing pains
The questions your children ask
The days when you feel stretched thin
The moments when you wonder if anything you’re doing matters
He is the God who brings life from what looked dormant. The God who softens hard soil. The God who makes all things new — slowly, steadily, beautifully.
A Prayer for March
“Lord, thank You for being faithful in every season — even the in-between ones. Help us trust Your slow, steady work in our homes and in our children’s hearts. Give us patience when routines shift, gentleness when emotions run high, and joy in the small signs of growth. Teach us to parent with Your love, Your peace, and Your hope. Amen.”
